Product information "PräziCase Pro | Case-making machine"

PräziCase Pro is a semi-automatic machine for the production of one-off and multiple book cases. Without complex set up runs of 1 - 500 pieces or more can be produced economically. All dimensions are measured by sensors and preset automatically. All other settings are controlled by the central control unit via touchscreen. The machine achieves an output of 4 - 5 book cases per minute depending on whether corners are trimmed in the machine (machine with corner trimmer option) or whether the corners of the cover material have been cut off before. The machine is operated by one person, who glues the cover material (on a separate gluing machine, e.g. PräziCoat Pro) and puts the boards into place. The actual casemaking process with trimming the corners, turning in all four edges and finally pressing the case is done fully automatically. The corners are turned in neatly. After the long edge has been turned in, the corners are folded by means of two tuck fingers. Manual pressing as known for other systems is not required.

The machine is available in the following versions:

  • PräziCase Pro SC3 - standalone machine with manual gage arms and side stop
  • PräziCase Pro XL - standalone machine with manual gage arms and side stop; if equipped with corner cutter suitable for larger cases
  • PräziCase Pro C1 - component of the Cover 1 system with automatic gage arms and side stop and barcode system

Prozess

  1. Basic settings are edited in the software of the central control unit.
  2. First the cover material is glued on an off-line gluing machine (e. g. PräziCoat Pro) and placed on the machine table. The upper overlap of the turn-in is adjusted by a variable stop. Lateral adjustment is done by means of a centered scale on the table or, if the cover material is pre-printed by means of a built-in mirror case. When producing multiple cases (of the same size) a side stop facilitates alignment.
  3. Now the spine hollow is clamped between the joint bars. By pressing the cycle button, the joint bars are lowered and position the spine hollow on the cover material. The two boards are placed manually abutting the guide angle.
  4. Two sensor arms are now placed against the boards in such a way that they rest against the left and bottom board edges. They measure the size of the book case automatically.
  5. Now the working cycle is started by pressing the cycle button on the touchscreen.
  6. This will raise the joint bars, carry the cover/board assembly into the machine where it is collected by two rotating discs. At this stage, the boards are already pressed.
  7. The rotating discs carry the case to the corner cutting device (optional). The first two corners are trimmed. The case is turned by 180° to cut off the remaining two corners.
  8. Then the case is carried backwards to the turning-in rollers where the two long edges are turned in one by one. At the same time, the corners are folded. Then the case is turned by 90° and the two short edges are turned in one by one.
  9. The case is then led back to the front below the table thereby running through the pressing-down rollers to press the whole surface again. When the spine hollow is of a thinner material, the machine may be adjusted in such a way that the cases come out vertically so that the pressing-down rollers also press the thinner material properly.
  10. The ready case leaves the machine after 12 - 15 seconds depending on whether the corners are trimmed or not. Therefore an output of approx. 240 cases (w/ corner cutter) up to approx. 300 (w/o corner cutter) cases per hour is achieved. This output may even be achieved after short training as gluing the cover material and placing the boards may easily be done within 12 seconds.

Advantages

The PräziCase Pro has an integrated touch screen that can be used to easily define the necessary settings. No additional set-up is necessary during case-making. The automatic inline corner section enables flexible on-demand production.

For all four sides of the book cover, the corners are cut, folded in and the book cover is pressed off in one operation. As a rule, up to 300 book covers per hour can be produced without a corner cut. With a corner cut, approx. 240 book covers per hour are possible.

The PräziCase Pro can be operated individually or combined in the Cover-1 system. For more information on the Cover-1 system, see below.

Combined in the barcode-controlled Cover-1 system

The PräziCase Pro in the C1 version is the centrepiece of the barcode-controlled Cover-1 case-making system. The Cover-1 system is a semi-automatic system for producing book cases, especially for the requirements of on-demand production. All format settings are transferred to the system via a barcode - this makes true on-demand production possible.
